Last month I interviewed Alyssa Faigen on The Marketing Attractions Podcast.
Alyssa is a full-time social media influencer who has helped promote several attractions in her local area. In fact, I’ve hired Alyssa to do work for some of my clients.
Even though I have been managing Influencer Marketing campaigns for attractions for years, I found it interesting to hear how a full-time influencer explains Influencer Marketing.
Here’s what she said…
“Influencer Marketing is Word of Mouth Marketing”
We don’t need a PhD in Marketing to know that word-of-mouth marketing is king.
Alyssa said, “I’ve spent years curating a relationship with my audience. My audience chooses to watch my content because they want my recommendations on how to spend their leisure time around town.”
To me, this is word-of-mouth marketing at scale. That’s powerful.
“I Am My Audience”
When I heard Alyssa say this my mind went to diversity.
With Influencer Marketing we can work with influencers that look and talk like the audiences we want to invite into our attraction. And, in an authentic way.
Plus, Influencer Marketing allows us to ‘micro-target’ a variety of audience segments without the need to produce new ads internally.
“We Can Drive Repeat Visitation by Showing The Attraction’s Hidden Gems”
Alyssa shared a story about visiting her local history center.
“Everyone knows the history center is here. But, did you know that they had a petting zoo?”
This is a great example of the creative ‘flexibility’ we get with Influencer Marketing.
We can highlight parts of your attraction that might not make it in a 15 or 30-second TV or radio commercial.
Plus, since the content is created from your visitor’s perspective, the video doesn’t feel like an ad. This increases engagement and emotional connection to your brand.
I believe that Influencer Marketing is one of the most effective marketing tactics a nonprofit attraction can invest in.
That’s because Influencer Marketing gives attractions an authentic, flexible way to share your story with various audiences.
