KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Start with the audience the institution wants to reach, then identify creators who naturally speak to that audience.
  • A creator’s relevance, geography, perspective, and relationship with followers can matter more than raw follower count.
  • Ask creators to show the experience through their own eyes rather than repeat institutional talking points.
  • Use creators to reveal experiences or reasons to visit that the broader market may not know about, then reuse strong content in paid advertising when the agreement allows.

Start with the audience, not the influencer list

A common influencer strategy starts with whoever has the most followers – or whoever happens to email the marketing department.

Reverse the process. First decide who the institution wants to reach.

Young families? Couples looking for date-night ideas? Tourists? Young adults? A particular community within the market?

Then find creators whose lives, content, geography, and audiences naturally connect to those people.

A smaller creator with the right audience may be much more useful than a larger creator whose following has little connection to the institution.

The creator is part of the message

Different visitors experience the same attraction differently.

A parent may focus on the children’s area and how easy the day was to navigate. A couple may show cocktails, dining, and an evening event. A local guide may frame the institution as something visitors should add to a weekend itinerary.

That variation is useful. It allows an institution to make a more relevant invitation instead of forcing one general message to work for everyone.

01

Ask creators to show the visit

Do not hire a creator to recite the brochure.

Ask them to show what happened. What surprised them? What did the kids love? What would they do first next time? What was worth paying extra for? What part of the institution did they not know existed?

The creator’s value is their ability to translate the experience for the people who trust their recommendations.

02

Use creators to uncover hidden reasons to visit

A familiar institution can still contain experiences most of the market knows very little about: a children’s garden, an animal encounter, a restaurant, a cocktail night, a seasonal trail, a workshop, or a quiet place worth spending an afternoon.

Creator content can put a spotlight on one small part of the experience rather than trying to explain the entire institution at once. That can create reasons for both first-time and repeat visits.

03

Extend the strongest recommendations

When the partnership includes the right to reuse the content, the strongest creator videos can become paid advertising.

That gives the institution the best of both sides: a credible visitor perspective and the ability to control who sees it, where, and how often.

Build relationships, not one-off posts.

Follower count is easy to compare. Audience fit is harder. It is also usually the more important consideration.
