Building a one-night event campaign from what already exists.
Zoo Brew is a one-night, 21+ event at the Detroit Zoo. With a short promotional window, limited media budget, and little existing creative beyond a logo treatment, there wasn’t time or budget to produce a traditional campaign from scratch.
The opportunity was to move quickly – find an efficient way to show the experience and keep as much of the budget as possible focused on reaching potential attendees.
Example Work
The creative started with a real visitor moment.
Instead of overproducing a new spot, the campaign reused creator-led vertical video that already captured the feeling of the event: lights, movement, atmosphere, and a reason to buy a ticket.
Zoo Brew creator video
Start by looking at what already exists.
Rather than starting from scratch, we looked back at content from a similar Zoo event the previous year and found creator video that already captured the experience we needed to sell.
Go back to the original creator.
We reached out to the creator who produced the content and secured permission to repurpose it for the new campaign. Because the source material already existed, the creative process could move quickly without planning and producing a new shoot.
Update the content for this year’s event.
The creator re-edited the original video with updated voiceover, text overlays, event dates, and other small changes needed to make the content current.
The result was new advertising creative built largely from an asset that had already been produced.
Put the budget into reaching people.
With production kept intentionally lean, more of the limited campaign budget could remain focused on paid media.
The creator video became a primary advertising asset, giving prospective attendees a real look at the experience rather than relying on a logo treatment to sell the event.
What changed
Zoo Brew sold out.
When the Zoo increased capacity the following year, the event sold out again.
More importantly, the approach created a practical model for marketing short-term events when time, budget, and existing creative are limited: before producing something new, look for strong content that already shows the experience and find a way to put it to work.
